Parental participation is highly valued and encouraged at St. Mary’s. Choices for parents to be involved in their child’s education and the school include:
School Council
Parent Support Group (PSG)
Volunteer Readers
Special Events Helpers
Volunteers for Working Bees
Classroom Helpers
Lunchtime Supervision
All volunteers in our school must complete a criminal records check (CRC) and take a Safe Environment Training workshop (SEP) before being eligible to work in the presence of children. This is a CISND policy that came into effect January 1, 2011. Ask at the school office for access to your free CRC and to attend one of our SEP training sessions held throughout the year.
St. Mary’s School belongs to the Diocese of Nelson, but has its own school council that oversees the business of the school. St. Mary's Cathloic School council is composed of 8-10 elected members who belong to our parishes.
You do not have to be an expert on education to join council. We just need interested people to care about our school and take on the task of learning about St. Mary’s to help make it grow in a positive and vibrant manner. Parents who are focused, have good ideas, and enjoy working with others for the betterment of the school community are needed to participate on council.
